Hip Hop Theatre Junction (New York, NY)
General Support
Total Award: $100,000 over 1 year
To support the Hip Hop Theatre Junction's efforts to build its administrative team, map out achievable goals and secure administrative space so that it can successfully expand to new venues. The Hip Hop Theatre Junction produces the annual Hip-Hop Theatre Festival (HHTF) and is committed to the creation and production of Hip-Hop theater and programs that address cutting-edge socio-political issues that are of importance to an urban population of adults under the age of 35. Through an open submission program and a network of scouts around the country, the Hip-Hop Theater Festival identifies and introduces new talent and new works from diverse artists. In 2003-2004 HHTF marketed the work to young audiences; worked with sponsors and collaborators to refine its outreach strategies in each city; developed content for the performances; and developed workshops, master classes, and panel discussions for each venue. At the urging of NCF as well as funding partners from Ford and Rockefeller, in 2004-2005 HHTF will build its administrative team; map out achievable artistic goals; develop plans for the next two seasons; and secure office space.
