Total Award: $150,000 over 1 year

To support Frameworks, a support structure which will provide media artists addressing issues of social justice with direct support, residencies, employment opportunities, mentorships, technical training and exhibition opportunities. Through its core program, Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC) serves a wide range of communities and nonprofit constituencies, including: independent artists and producers, community-based organizations and technology centers, social services providers, public and private schools, museums and arts institutions, television outlets, workforce development organizations and media arts centers. Frameworks will engage in the production of high-quality, cutting-edge progressive media, train diverse media makers and facilitate networks of mediamakers, community organizations and audiences. During 2003-2004, BAVC provided socially committed media makers with access to state-of-the-art equipment and technical assistance; produced media for other nonprofits; provided industry-certified workshops; preserved significant works; and developed interactive training materials. Filmmakers receiving support from BAVC produced works that addressed environmental as well as governmental and corporate accountability issues. Over the course of the next two years BAVC will create an artists' residency; support works in progress, support emerging media artists, work with youth media makers and provide professional development training for media makers.
