Return to Earth: Spirit and Memory
Joan Monastero Twenty years ago I moved from my birthplace, Brooklyn, New York to, New York City. As an artists I have explored collage, painting and weaving, but during that period, weaving was my creative focus. The small works in this exhibit relate to that time. Here in the Catskill Mountains of New York we are surrounded by trees, mountains, a mighty river and many lakes, streams, ponds...There are still farms in our neighborhoods and many of us have gardens where we grow our own vegetables and flowers. Naturally, all of this enters our lives, our consciousness and our work. How could it be otherwise? I feel very blessed to be able to live in a natural environment where each day I can observe birds, stars, plants... "Ten thousand flowers in spring, the moon in autumn, a cool breeze
in summer, snow in winter, If your mind isn't clouded by unnecessary
things, this is the best season of your life."
