Knowledge in Technology
Founded in 1971, The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is a comprehensive
arts service organization serving individuals and communities in New York State
and the nation. As a leader in the nonprofit arts community, NYFA has a particularly
strong tie to small and mid-sized groups through distinct programs that identify,
strengthen and preserve community-based projects and insure that nonprofit groups are given the opportunity to develop independently. In addition to its work
in the nonprofit community, NYFA strives to bring forward innovations in technology
that will advance public understanding and inspire lifelong interest in the
arts.
Under the auspices of NYFA, the Knowledge in Technology (KIT) pilot is a program
of Arts Wire, NYFAs online communications project. KIT is an initiative
that helps small to mid-sized nonprofit organizations stay on track as technology
changes. Through workshops, technical assistance, and an online magazine, the
field receives expert professional assistance at reasonable cost. The technological
age demands constant professional development. Routine maintenance is often
beyond the financial capability of small nonprofit organizations. KIT offers
nonprofit arts administrators (and especially those organizations with fewer
resources) a means to improve daily operations while ensuring that information
technology evolves as a meaningful part of the cultural sectors infrastructure.
