General Support

Northwest Environment Watch (NEW) is an independent, not-for-profit research and publishing center based in Seattle. Through aggressive dissemination of change-making ideas, NEW fosters an environmentally sound economy and way of life in the Pacific Northwest–the region stretching from southern Alaska to northern California and from the Pacific Ocean to the crest of the Rockies. NEW believes that if northwesterners cannot reconcile their economy with the ecosystems of their home place–the greenest corner of history’s richest civilization–it probably cannot be done. If they can, they will set an example for the world.

Founded in 1993, NEW conducts action-oriented policy research and publishes its findings each year in short books, which it distributes to thousands of concerned citizens, elected officials, community leaders, educators, and journalists. NEW Reports, as this series is called, strive to address crux issues of sustainability and to present the most authoritative information available. The books are lively, readable, and provocative, designed to bring vital information before large audiences, both through book readership and media attention.
