General Support
The National Campaign for Freedom of Expression (NCFE), consists of an educational
and advocacy network of artists, arts organizations, audience members, and concerned
citizens formed to protect and extend freedom of artistic expression and fight
censorship. Through its programs of education, communications, research, policy
development, and organizing coalitions, NCFE is fighting censorship and invigorating
the democratic process at the same time. NCFE has been an especially effective
team player, taking the lead in the freedom-of-expression community to create
the Freedom of Expression Network.
NCF has been a supporter of the National Campaign for Freedom of Expression
since 1991. Initially, NCFE's funding came through our Arts Program, from a
focus area called Creative Autonomy/Arts Advocacy, which was later subsumed
under the Democratic Values focus area in our Interprogram grants program. Over
the last few years, NCFE's own focus has broadened in a similar fashion so that
it can "help promote the arts and culture as a part of a larger progressive
agenda." NCFE is now involved in collaborations with groups working to
counter the right outside the arts movement, as well as the investment of resources
and energy to reclaim the "language" of democratic values.
Family-centered care is an approach to health care that offers a new way of
thinking about the relationships between families and health care providers.
Family-centered practitioners acknowledge that emotional, social, and developmental
support are integral components of health care. They respect the choices that
patients and families make in accordance with their values, beliefs, and cultural
backgrounds. Family-centered practitioners involve patients and families in
planning, delivery, and evaluation of their own health care services.
