The Spirituality Institute at Metivta is a retreat-based learning program for rabbis and lay leaders. It was developed in response to the need for rabbis and community leaders to be able to provide sophisticated, text-based yet contemporary interpretations of Jewish spirituality to a new generation of Jews who seek new post-Holocaust, postmodern, post-denominational meaning for their complicated, urban lives. These students bring great intellectual and psychological insights to their search, and often a familiarity with other traditions. The Institute will develop and model a style of teaching that combines intellectual rigor with personal introspection and contemplative reflection. We expect the Spirituality Institute to become a significant force in enriching the capacity of the American Jewish community to support Jews in their search for deep meaning in their lives and in their communities.
