EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
The Nathan Cummings Foundation welcomes Caroline L. Williams back as Executive Vice President effective July 1, 2010. Caroline served as Chief Financial and Investment Officer of the Foundation from 2001 to 2005 and continued in a consulting role on the Foundation’s Shareholder Activities program through 2007.

Caroline Williams was a Managing Director of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, a major Wall Street firm, and has 20 years of direct experience as an investment banker. Since leaving DLJ she has regularly served on boards of both public and private companies. She has also been active in the non-profit sector as a consultant and a board member, including serving on the steering committee and initial board of the United Nation’s Principles for Responsible Investment.

Ms. Williams has published numerous article on non-profit finance including: “New Trends in Financing the Non-profit Sector in the United States: The Transformation of Private Capital – Reality or Rhetoric?” ( Chapter 5, The Non-Profit Sector in a Changing Economy, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development; Paris, France, 2003), “Who’s Minding the Store?” (Foundation News & Commentary, Mar/Apr 2003 Vol. 44, No 2.) and Financing Techniques for Non-Profit Organizations: Borrowing From The For-Profit Sector (President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, Washington, D.C., 1998).

Ms. Williams received her formal education from the Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy, The New School for Social Research, New York, Vassar College and Milwaukee Downer Seminary (University School of Milwaukee).

Ms. Williams resides in New Jersey

PROGRAM DIRECTOR, ARTS & CULTURE PROGRAM
The Nathan Cummings Foundation is delighted to welcome Maurine D. Knighton to the Foundation staff as the new Director of its Arts & Culture program, effective August 23, 2010.

Ms. Knighton brings more than 22 years of solid experience in the arts and culture and financial fields through her work with art institutions, theaters, nonprofits, funders, foundations and government. She has extensive experience dealing with Boards; program design; grant evaluation; organizational management policies, procedures, financial stability, and capacities; and in working for social justice in communities in Georgia, Minnesota and New York.

For the past 6 years, Ms. Knighton has served as Senior Vice President at the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone where she developed, structured, managed and successfully refined the $40 million Cultural Industry Investment Fund portfolio. She introduced approaches and programs to leverage arts and culture that stimulated local economic revitalization. This appointment is a reflection of our strong commitment to social justice in the arts.

Ms. Knighton graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1981. She has served as an advisor, presenter, panelist and facilitator to many institutions, including the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ford Foundation.

Ms. Knighton resides in Brooklyn, New York.

 

PROGRAM ASSISTANT, HEALTH PROGRAM
The Nathan Cummings Foundation is pleased to welcome Hilary Haldeman to the Foundation staff as the new Program Assistant in our Health program.

For the past two years, Ms. Haldeman has been employed at Sea Change Foundation, a private, non-profit foundation in San Francisco focused on large-scale climate grantmaking. She joined Sea Change as Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director and within a short period, was promoted to Program Assistant. where she expanded her skills and experiences in working with nonprofit organizations and Board of Directors.

Through her volunteer work and internships with Planned Parenthood, Pasadena Unified School District and Entertainment Brokers International, Hilary gained additional experience that makes her a perfect candidate for the Nathan Cummings team.

Ms. Haldeman is a graduate of Kenyon College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Studio Art.

Ms. Haldeman joins the Nathan Cummings Foundation on August 9, 2010 and will reside in New York City.
